Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: In which I spend all of my money on fashion

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines hubris as "a great or foolish amount of pride or confidence," which probably fits my current mood toward my ongoing Nuzlocke run through Pokémon Y. My team composition is really strong: I've got a living flower that can eat souls, a magical and hyper-intelligent fox and a bird that can suplex airplanes. I'm just not sweating the "game" of Pokémon anymore — instead, most of my attention is going toward getting my fashion so right.

Watch us flail at aliens in Osiris: New Dawn

While at this year's PAX West we stumbled upon Osiris: New Dawn, a spacefaring survival game from developer Fenix Fire. Earlier this week we streamed an early playthrough of the game to Facebook, and here's the full archive for you if you missed it. Osiris: New Dawn has been in development for five years by a core team of two people. The game blends resource gathering and base building from games like Ark: Survival Evolved and the same sorts of thematic and exploration elements that got so many people excited about No Man's Sky. It launched into Steam's Early Access program just last week. We tour the game's starting area and visit a more populated server to get a look at some more high-level gear. We also may or may not have been stream-sniped. It's hard to say. For more information...

Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: In which the game demands a sacrifice

I'm back from my month away from this damned Pokémon Y Nuzlocke run, and it's possible that during my absence, I have become ... soft. Things do not go especially great during this episode, and I can't help but wonder if things would have been different if I had diligently continued my training over the course of September. Then again, most of the bad stuff in this episode was executed by fate itself, which seems adamant that I do not cross the finish line of Pokémon Y a happy boy.

Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: In which I meet Sonic the Hedgehog

There is nothing you can do to convince me that Lucario isn't just Sonic the Hedgehog in disguise, trying to stealthily smuggle his way into a ... healthier video game franchise. In this episode of my Nuzlocke run through Pokémon Y, I manage to add a Sonic to my team — but I also learn a dark truth about the nature of eggs in the Pokémon franchise, which is to say, apparently there are no eggs anywhere.

Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: Spelunking in a very annoying cave

If you've played a Pokémon game, you probably knew this episode of my Nuzlocke run of Pokémon Y was coming: An episode where I spend way, way too long in a cave, fighting off hordes of terrible monsters and gauntlets of omnipresent trainers. I'm really, really excited by what I've seen from Pokémon Sun and Moon, but, hey, one suggestion: Ban all caves.

Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: In which the body count rises

The past couple episodes of this, my Nuzlocke run through Pokémon Y, have hinted at how difficult this process is going to be after a fairly smooth start. In this episode, things just completely fall apart. Can my team survive the loss of a pillar of the community? Could it survive the loss ... of even more? I do not have the answers to these questions yet, because I am still deep in mourning.

Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: A rocky start to the second gym

I'm making progress in my Nuzlocke run of Pokémon Y, following my heartbreaking first loss in last week's episode. But this week, I'm taking on the game's second Trainer Gym, which features some surprisingly durable Rock-type Pokémon. Can I protect my precious children from their bouldery onslaught? Or will Sea Breeze get some unexpected company up in Pokémon Heaven?

Take a look at the extraordinary loveliness of Bound

In my Bound review, posted earlier this week, I wrote about this lovely PlayStation 4 dance-platformer, and how it successfully blends a carefully animated central character with a surprisingly original world. In the 10-minute video above, using various cuts from early parts of the game, I speak about these themes, as well as my criticisms of the game. Most significantly, I worry that the game does not go far enough in developing its central mechanic of putting together dance moves that make the player feel like a creative individual. But this ought to be balanced with my other points, that this is an emotional journey more than a creative playpen or a physical challenge. It's about passing through an extraordinary space, and experiencing a story about love and belonging. If you...

Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: In which the playthrough gets very difficult

Up until this, the fourth installment of my Nuzlocke run through Pokémon Y, my adventure had been fairly smooth sailing (one unfortunately KO'ed Flabebe notwithstanding). But I seem to have reached the point in the game where enemy Pokémon take off the kid gloves, and stop pulling their punches. If this is what the rest of the game is going to be like, I may be in over my head.

Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge: Making the scariest Trainer PR Video of all time

I'm on a hot streak of none of my precious, precious Pokéfriends dying terrible deaths during this Nuzlocke run of Pokémon Y — but how long can I keep that streak alive? Can I keep a brand new friend safe from a horde of big-pantsed lizards? Also, can I further Team Yiffin's ultimate quest? Which is to say: How quickly can I improve my fashions? Find out in today's episode of Pokémon Y Nuzlocke Challenge, posted above!
